Trip to the Lily Dutch Windmill 2015
On the 14th of June 2015 the Sport Aircraft Association of Australia (SAAA) Albany Chapter (Chapter 1) held a fly in to the Lily Dutch Windmill just north of the Stirling Ranges near Albany. The airfield owners Hennie and Pleun Hitzert put on a great BBQ lunch, coffee and Apple Pie. There was a great turnout as you can see from the photos and we hope this ends up being one of the regular events on the WA aviation calendar. It’s a great destination for a weekend stay – they even have a Dakota C47 which has been converted into a hotel room. There’s two runways 09/27 and 14/32. Runway 14 slopes down 2.5% and has a large drop-off about 1/3 of the way down the runway. It’s better to land on 32 if the wind is negligible. All the runways are well kept. If you are flying around this area it’s definitely a spot to visit.
