Wyalkatchem Fly In 2016

Wyalkatchem Fly-in 2016

Updates:

  • New parking maps have been added
  • Weather is looking good for the event

Overview:

Pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and friends are invited to take part in the Wyalkatchem Fly-In 2016 on Saturday, April 23rd.

Wyalkatchem previously hosted a fly-in and sausage sizzle in 2013 to celebrate the new runway openings, it was a great day out and gave the local community the opportunity to find out about aviation from local and visiting pilots.

There is no formal flying program on the day; However, there will be a number of free activities on offer once you arrive:

  • Free Breakfast for early arrivals (before 10am)
  • Free Sausage Sizzle for Lunch (11:30am to 1pm)
  • Free Entry to Wylies Swimming Pool
  • Free Bus Transfers into Wyalkatchem town
  • Free guided tour of the Wylie CBH Museum
  • No landing fees

The sealed, lighted, cross strips are the result of the commitment and a massive input of voluntary work from the local community, the airport plays a crucial role in the Region with Royal Flying Doctor Service aircraft using the airfield and transfer station for day & night mercy flights, (often, several times in a week) and several flying schools also use the field  for Nav exercises.

RSVP: If you plan to be attending please register your interest to assist with catering and preparation to president@uniflying.org.au and provide the following information:

Kalbarri Fly-in 2015

Bunbury Aero Club are organising a fly-in to Kalbarri in late October.

Most aircraft will be departing Friday 30st October and returning 1st November for a weekend of fun, relaxation or whatever you may choose. BAC have club aircraft available for hire and bookings for rooms at Pelican Shores Villas. Call or email to register your interest and to book accommodation. There is usually a dinner on the Friday night (and sometimes pilots also meet on Saturday too but it’s not scheduled as some people like to do their own thing on the second night).

Trip to the Lily Dutch Windmill 2015

On the 14th of June 2015 the Sport Aircraft Association of Australia (SAAA) Albany Chapter (Chapter 1) held a fly in to the Lily Dutch Windmill just north of the Stirling Ranges near Albany. The airfield owners Hennie and Pleun Hitzert put on a great BBQ lunch, coffee and Apple Pie. There was a great turnout as you can see from the photos and we hope this ends up being one of the regular events on the WA aviation calendar. It’s a great destination for a weekend stay – they even have a Dakota C47 which has been converted into a hotel room. There’s two runways 09/27 and 14/32. Runway 14 slopes down 2.5% and has a large drop-off about 1/3 of the way down the runway. It’s better to land on 32 if the wind is negligible. All the runways are well kept. If you are flying around this area it’s definitely a spot to visit.
